the greatest discoveries of my adult life

The title is pretty self explanatory but I’ll say a little bit. See, there are something I didn’t discovery/explore until adulthood. This is a small list of the favorites:

Ethiopian food

In the late nineties, early 2000s…I befriended a nice Ethiopian college student who also loved my favorite rapper, Jay-Z. We bonded over Hov and Roc-a-fella artists. Over the years, we became the best of friends and met families and ate at each other’s homes, etc. My first experience with Ethiopian food was home cooked from my best friend’s mother. I’ll never forget it was a spicy cabbage and carrot dish, chicken and ingera bread. My nose ran from the spicies but it was so delicious, I kept going. Over time I developed a few favorites, lamb wat (lamb stewed in a spicy gravy until tender), Alicha (the cabbage dish previously stated) and the lentils (OMG THE LENTILS) all must be eaten with injera bread.

The flavors are insane and like nothing I’ve ever tasted, love at first bite.

Having lasting relationships with gays

Gay men are very detailed oriented and cultured. I know so much about food, musicals and couture all because my last relationships with homosexual men.  I love Ella Fitzgerald, wasabi based salad dressing, costume jewelry..and I have Andrew to thank. They are the only men who appreciate your boobs in the exact same way you do. LOL!

Boston, MA

Maybe discover isn’t the right way to put it. I didn’t “discover” it in my adulthood. I knew what I’d learned in school, Cheers was there, Celtics, Harvard..the normal things. So, one of my birthday trips was spent in Boston on the suggestion of my big homie, Heeb. I love that place. Like, I love it, I’d move there. The best clam chowder, to the point I don’t eat it anymore because nobody is topping it here. Guinnesses are a tad bit taster there. Men have sexy accents and talk like JFK. Newberry Street with the bonus of no sales tax on clothing. A great hip hop scene, not all extra and crowded (or hipster driven)like in the Chi. I did discover Project Move (www.myspace.com/projectmove) and Raydar Ellis (www.myspace.com/raydarellis) there, They put on one of the best shows I’ve been to. Mind you, this was in 2006 and it was so dope, I remember it like it was yesterday

Berry Chill

Finally frozen yogurt that doesn’t taste like bland ice cream but tasty yogurt that’s been frozen. The fresh fruit toppings are like a lapdance for your mouth. Yumtastical.

and last but not least

MAC Cosmetics

A friend from way back’s sister put me on when I was 19 and I never looked back. The colors were youthful and the product was of great quality and still is. I know that it’s a status symbol to some women but I love it and I’d break out if I use anything else.
